An honest note

I can never guarantee a match, or even a date. It takes two to tango.

I only connect two people when they meet each other's criteria and I believe there's serious potential for marriage. Timing varies from person to person, and some people wait many months before their first match. There's no fee to go on a date and no limit to how many dates you can be set up on.

Expect quality over quantity. Every couple I've matched found each other on their first or second DBD introduction. This is precision work!

The traditional Jewish model

The big payment comes when you're engaged.

Many American-style matchmakers charge $5,000 to $50,000 or more up front for a contracted amount of time. I follow the traditional model of shadchanus gelt instead: the most significant payment is made when you are, in fact, matched.

It's paid within 30 days of engagement, typically about 5% of the couple's combined annual income, with a $5,400 minimum. Many families take it on as part of the wedding journey, right up there with the ring and the venue, and many choose a multiple of chai for the symbolism.

Shelby's journey to Aaron was a modern-day princess-and-the-frog story. A few months after a breakup, an old fling texted her. Things hadn't worked out between them, but he said she was still "really cool" and should sign up for a "Jewish matchmaking thing" a friend of his was starting. Shelby replied with a certain finger emoji… then signed up anyway. Aaron, meanwhile, was lucky enough to be born into Delaney's inner circle: they're cousins!

Shelby was looking for someone driven, smart, adventurous, and, honestly, a little weird like her. Aaron wanted someone open-minded, adventurous, a team player, and someone who left room for growth. After reading Shelby's form, Delaney just had a feeling. She called Shelby and asked, "What do you mean by weird?" Shelby replied, "I don't know, I just am!" Aaron, being Delaney's cousin, gave her absolutely nothing to go on, but luckily, Delaney had a hunch.

In their first few weeks of dating, Aaron noticed Shelby's competitive edge, their shared love of nachos and beer, and her willingness to entertain engineer-talk. Shelby found a guy who took her seriously, shared her taste in food and music, and had truly aligned goals and values. Countless trips, concerts, chess games, and family dinners later, neither of them has to kiss any more frogs, and Delaney is so thrilled to welcome Shelby into the family too!

I'm a Jewish matchmaker, coach and confidante to 2,000+ Jewish singles in their 20s and 30s across the USA. I match people on shared values and a soul-level connection, bringing the wisdom of traditional Jewish matchmaking into a format made for my peers.

I founded Dating by Delaney after October 7th, 2023, with one mission: more strong Jewish families, rooted in strong Jewish relationships. I'm a two-time founder, originally from the Baltimore area, and now based in Nashville with my husband, Sam.
